In the not to distant future, man is on the verge of the technological singularity. Scientific advancement has created the ABACUS.  The ABACUS has created H.E.S. (Holographic Environment Simulator), H.E.S. is a virtual coliseum; A holographic galditorial style battle arena.  It is capable of recreating real-world environments for public coliseum events.  Contestants compete as a team; attempting to withstand waves of artificially created enemy combatants and bosses in an endless series of waves while trying to survive as long as possible. 

The ABACUS is a artificially inteligent quantum computer.  It was designed as to serve humans in all capacities.  Because automation has replaced most need for human workers, the ABACUS created the Holographic Environment Simulator Arena to entertain the masses, lest society be overrun by vice due to boredom.  The whole of mankind now exists in a state of cultural deterioration that resembles the waning days of the Roman Empire and the spurious glory that came with the Coliseum.  In this era, society feeds off this gluttonous appetite for violence and adrenaline.    These virtual arena games have become a source of decadent gambling whilst serving a populace permeated by a virtual blood lust.  This corrupt propensity of human nature will end up becoming the source of their abrupt extinction as ABACUS will soon begin to identify humanities internal rottenness as a threat to its own existence.  ABACUS will soon program itself to destroy any rival species that it identifies in the material world as a menace.

Several humans at a time are chosen and captured, to be held captive in the H.E.S.’s virtual connectivity machines.  They are held to compete in the H.E.S. arena until their neurons are overloaded at which time they are decommissioned (i.e. brain dead) and replaced with new prisoners that will arrive to take their place.  For a brief time in their inprocessing, the prisoners are afforded freedom to meet, plan and to design their own virtual combatants that will compete in the H.E.S. Arena events.  Upon finalizing their avatars, they are cybernetically linked into a H.E.S. Cryo Chamber.  The present group of prisoners appear to have a collective ingenuity and creative force that ABACUS has overlooked and thus underestimated.  Scientist had found that even in a state of omniscience, the Quantum A.I. appears unable to display the trait of creativity because it inherently possesses elements of spontaneity and unpredictability to which no A.I.  has been able to manifest.  This is the X factor which the current teams hope to exploit ABACUS.  .  Their combined self sacrifice becoming a beacon of utilitarianism that will ultimately the world free.  The teams plan is to hack into the H.E.S. via a source code that will layer their VR characters with a Polymorphic virus, which will guard itself with an encryption algorithm that automatically alters itself when each H.E.S. battle wave is complete, helping it avoid detection by ABACUS until the VR characters are powered up enough to confront it.  They will push deep into the H.E.S. arena network farther than any contestants to date.  They intend the hack to disrupt the H.E.S. mainframes and in the process provide themselves a direct link to infiltrate ABACUS in Virtual Reality.  If the group can gain temporary access to an ABACUS link by disrupting the H.E.S., they plan to use its own command and control access to hack into the grid of the Public Defence Bureau.  Once access is gained, they plan to launch an EMP Missile directly at the physical site of ABACUS.  This will short out the Quantum AI core as well as permanently destroy the H.ES. in an epic electrical meltdown
Humanity is blind to the danger of the ABACUS.  The current Arena team intends to do what the world itself refuses to do, to confront the ABACUS in a head on battle to reclaim humanity from the ominous singularity that threatens their extinction.  Take control of one of the current virtuoso players!
